Greene King has announced plans to open a major new pub at the Futurist development in Liverpool, close to the city’s Lime Street station. Work on the 6,500 square feet site will start shortly, with a view to opening in the spring. The Futurist scheme, which is on the site of an old cinema, will also have a hotel, supermarket, shops and flats.
Southern American brand Slim Chickens is opening its sixth UK site at Cabot Circus in Bristol on 29 November, as it continues a rapid rollout in partnership with Boparan Restaurant Group. Slim Chickens launched into the UK two years ago on James Street in London and has since added restaurants in Soho and Brunswick Centre in the capital, and in Cardiff and Birmingham. It has around 80 sites in the US.
Honest Burgers opened its latest new restaurant this week on Old Broad Street near Liverpool Street station. It has 136 covers and some burgers and cocktails that are unique to the branch.
Five Guys has signed to open a 2,000 square feet restaurant at leisure and entertainment development Resorts World Birmingham. It joins a casual dining line-up there that includes Las Iguanas, Miller & Carter and Zizzi.
LEON is continuing expansion in the US with the opening of a third restaurant in the Washington DC area on Friday (8 November). The restaurant is on I Street NW and launched with a Donation Day that gave out free breakfast and lunch items in return for donations to the Martha’s Table charity. LEON first opened in the US last September. Glenn Edwards, LEON USA President, said: “We chose the Washington DC area as our US home for a number of reasons, including the sense of community that we felt here.”
Manchester brewery Seven Bro7hers is opening a pub and taproom in Liverpool. It has signed for a unit at the Wolstenholme Square development, which will have several more food and drink venues as well as retail units and apartments. Seven Bro7hers also runs a Taproom at its Salford brewery and a Beerhouse in the Ancoats district.
The ETM Group opened sports bar and restaurant The Redwood at London Bridge station on Thursday (7 November). It is a 6,000 square feet unit situated by the station’s entrance. The launch follows the success of ETM’s pub, restaurant and sports lounge Greenwood in Victoria, and several other sports-focused venues.
Japanese brand YO! has opened a YO! To Go unit at Piccadilly station in Manchester. It plans to take the on-the-go brand to other high-footfall city locations.
Whitbread has applied for permission to open a Bar + Block steakhouse restaurant in Swindon. It would be part of a new eight-floor Premier Inn hotel in the town and is scheduled to open in late 2021. It continues a rapid rollout of the Bar + Block brand, which has also just opened in Sutton in Surrey.
Patty & Bun is opening a second restaurant in Soho later this month—on the former Breddos Tacos site on Kingly Street. Patty & Bun currently has eight restaurants, including another in Soho on Goodge Street, plus one in Brighton and several concessions.
Raymond Blanc’s White Brasserie Company will reach 20 restaurants when it opens a new site in Prestbury near Cheltenham in early December. It will have around 100 covers. The pub, the Kings Arms, was previously run by Crown Carveries.
Crazy golf and social entertainment operation Puttshack has set 22 November for the opening of its third venue at 1 Poultry in Bank. It will have a capacity for 650 people. Puttshack also operates at Lakeside and White City.
The team behind BBQ Dreamz, winner of the Million Pound Menu TV competition earlier this year, opened their first permanent restaurant in Bethnal Green on Thursday (7 November)—a Filipino-inspired concept called Bong Bong’s Manila Canteen.
Taco Bell is opening in Reading’s Broad Street Mall as it continues a rapid rollout under franchise in the UK. It is also preparing a launch at Nene Park in Northampton in mid-December.
The team behind the Raj of Kensington restaurant is opening a second site in the next few weeks—the Raj of Islington on Holloway Road.
